•  During her visit to South 24 Parganas, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in the prize distribution ceremony of Subderban Cup, 2018-19 in Sagar, South 24-Parganas today. Introduced by the present Government in 2012, this event has generated tremendous enthusiasm among the local youth for achieving excellence in sports and games. A record number of participants from nearly 2042 clubs of 40 police stations under 4 police districts of North and South 24-Parganas took part in the event this year. Hon’ble Chief Minister wished her best to all the participants and the winners. On the occasion, a large number of new government projects in and around Sagar were launched and Government benefits handed over to huge number of beneficiaries.

•  On the eve of the world-famous Gangasagar Mela, Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banrjee visited South 24-Parganas district to take stock of the preparatory arrangements. Today, in the first phase of the visit, she was present in a big government public distribution programme at Mandirbazar, South 24-Parganas. A large number of new projects in infrastructure, health, irrigation, skill development, education, employment generation and other sectors were flagged off. Government benefits were distributed to more than 20,000 beneficiaries on the occasion. Later in the day, Hon'ble Chief Minister visited the Kapil Muni Ashram in Sagar Island.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present today in the inauguration ceremony of the Kolkata Christmas Festival at Park Street. Introduced by the present government in 2011, this festival, with its beautiful spread of Christmas carols, great food, glittering lights and lots more, is indeed a signature event in the city. The Hon’ble Chief Minister invited all to come and join the festivities. On this occasion, she sent out the message of peace, unity, harmony, tolerance and of upholding individual liberty and dignity. Later, like previous years, she joined all in the Christmas Meet, 2018 at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today chaired a meeting with the officials of different departments at Nabanna, in view of the forthcoming Ganga Sagar Mela in January 2019. Ministers of different departments were requested to take up responsibilities regarding the smooth flow of the annual pilgrimage which witnesses presence of huge numbers of pilgrims each year. The Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that the pilgrims will be covered by insurance to the tune of Rs 5 lakh.

•  The much-awaited annual festival of melodious songs of Bengal, the Bangla Sangeet Mela, 2018 was inaugurated today by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, at Uttirna. On this occasion, the prestigious Sangeet Mahasamman awards were conferred on Arijit Singh, Shaan, Pratik Choudhury, Ruponkar Bagchi, Monomoy Bhattacharya, Raghab Chatterjee, Sraboni Sen, Debojyoti Bose, Saikat Mitra and Debojyoti Mishra. Also, Sangeet Samman awards were conferred on Gita Choudhury, Jojo, Srikumar Chattopadhyay, Manab Mukherjee, Rahul Chatterjee, Durga Roy, Asim Roy, Mahim Fakir, Bibha Hansda, Saraswati Debi and Sibsundar Das. These awards have been introduced by the present government in 2011 for outstanding contribution to the world of music. To showcase the immensely rich folk heritage of Bengal, the Biswa Bangla Lok Sanskriti Utsav, 2018, introduced by the present government 3 years ago, was also flagged off from the same occasion. Thousands of folk artists from all over the state will be performing in this festival. The Hon’ble Chief Minister invited all to come and have a feel of this wonderful world of songs, music and folk songs over the coming days.

•  After Paschim Medinipur, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived in Purba Medinipur and today took part in a government public distribution programme at Bajkul. As part of the continuing efforts of the Government to ensure more and more development, a big bouquet of new projects were flagged off today. Projects spanning across infrastructure, power, transport, irrigation and flood control, drinking water, road connectivity, tourism, urban beautification, employment generation, education and many more sectors were flagged off. She said that the Government’s commitment is development and all efforts will continue to be directed towards ensuring development of the people.
