•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee chaired a meeting today in a hugely attended programme with 15 Development and Cultural Boards of Kalimpong and Darjeeling districts at Jarvie Hall at Dr Graham's Homes in Kalimpong. Financial grants were handed over today to the Boards for socio-economic development through creation of community assets, housing, night schools, hostels and preservation of culture and heritage of the communities. She sent her best wishes to all and said that she would love to see the hill brothers and sisters smile always.

•   Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee chaired the administrative review meeting for Kalimpong district at Kalimpong. In the meeting she laid stress on Information Technology, agriculture, horticulture and floriculture segments to generate employment and thereby strengthen the economy of the region.

•  Representatives of the Indian Medical Association led by its All India president had a meeting with Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Nabanna today. Several issues including the process of complaints to be passed on to the newly formed West Bengal Health Commission were discussed in the meeting.

•   Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached Kalimpong today, during her 4-day visit to North Bengal.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated all the successful candidates of West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination, 2018.

•   Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in the swearing-in ceremony of H. D. Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister of Karnataka at Bangalore today. She sent her congratulations and best wishes to the new government.

•   The Convocation Ceremony of Visva Bharati was held today at Santiniketan. Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal Keshari Nath Tripathi, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and distinguished guests from Bangladesh and India were present in the occasion. The Hon’ble Chief Minister congratulated and wished best to all recipients of awards and degrees. She conveyed her best wishes to all students, alumni, officials and entire faculty of Visva Bharati on this occasion. Later she was present in the inauguration ceremony of Bangladesh Bhaban at Santiniketan. She said that it was indeed a new milestone in India-Bangladesh relations and sweet ties of friendship and brotherhood of the people of Bangladesh and West Bengal.

•  Bengal’s highest civilian awards, Banga Bibhusan and Banga Bhusan, were conferred today for outstanding contributions in various fields. Instituted by the present government in 2011, this is the seventh year of the awards and the ceremony was held in a befitting manner in Nazrul Mancha today, in presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The recipients of Banga Bibhushan Samman this year were legendary singer Asha Bhosle, Girija Shankar Roy (academician), Suhrid Kumar Bhowmick (linguist), Samaresh Majumder (writer), Subratra Bhattacharya (footballer), Md Habib (footballer), Prosenjit Chatterjee (actor) and Retd Justice Shyamal Kumar Sen. This year the recipients of Banga Bhushan awards were Sriradha Bandyopadhyay (singer), Arundhati Home Chowdhury (singer), and Partha Ghosh (voice-artist). From the stage, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that the Chief Secretary of the State will personally meet legendary Kathak exponent Pandit Birju Maharaj and felicitate him with Banga Bibhushan award.

•   Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced today that the State Government will increase the remunerations of civic volunteers, and ASHA and ICDS workers. The increase would come into effect from October 1, she said, speaking on the occasion of the Banga Bibhusan awards ceremony at Nazrul Mancha. For the 1.2 lakh civic volunteers, monthly remunerations would go up from Rs 5,500 to Rs 8,000. For the 50,000 ASHA workers, monthly remunerations would go up from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000. For the 2.3 lakh ICDS workers, monthly remunerations would go up by Rs 1,000, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed deep concern over the sharp rise in petrol and diesel prices, saying it will affect common people. On social media, she stated that she was very concerned about the rising prices of petrol and diesel. This will certainly affect prices all around. Common people, farmers and many will suffer, she stated.

•   Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to the Prime Minister of India to allow business houses to make contribution for corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities to Chief Minister’s Relief Funds (CMRF). The letter points out that if contribution to CMRF in the states is also made an eligible activity under CSR, the little contribution would be very helpful to all the states to extend the much-desired assistance and relief to people in need.

•  The state-level celebration of Rabindra Jayanti was held today at Cathedral Road, Kolkata. Legendary personalities from the world of music, culture, performing arts and almost all walks of life were present on the occasion to pay homage to Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. Renditions of his immortal creations gave a beautiful touch to the ceremony. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the celebration programme.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today attended in Delhi the first meeting of the 'National Committee' at Rashtrapati Bhawan, constituted for planning the events to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in a befitting manner all over the country. The meeting was presided by HE the Hon’ble President of India in presence of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Hon’ble Chief Ministers of several States and other dignitaries.

•   During her visit to Delhi, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had a meeting with the Hon’ble Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal. They had discussions related to the Deocha-Pachami coal mine.

Acting Chief Justice Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya took oath as the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court today.
